• 18th Rendezvous History Seminar

Through presentations, first-person narratives, living-history encounters and articles posted on the event website and Facebook page, attendees of the 18th Rendezvous seminar will explore the history of the women who traveled, lived and died on the historic trade route. With notable exceptions, such as Susan Shelby Magoffin, the women of the trail are often overshadowed by their male counterparts. This seminar will bring their experiences into the light.

Sessions include the dedication of a marker at Ash Creek Crossing for Susan Shelby Magoffin, an overview of women from trail history, African American, American Indian, and Hispanic women, prostitutes, a panel of modern women of the trail, first-person narratives of Julia Archibald Homes, Kitty Hays, and Cathay Williams, history of the D.A. R. trail markers, a fashion show of attire worn by women who lived at Fort Larned, and a presentation by the Great Great Granddaughter of Katie Bowen, wife of army officer Captain Isaac Bowen.
